How’s library management? Is it quick?

Hi Jim, which one do you think is best? Luminar neo or On1 photo raw? I've seen plenty of your luminar neo tutorials. Just wondering which one you prefer to use? Cheers.

Max subscriber here: I seem to be the only one not able to log onto the website (although this has been a recurring theme in the last few years for quite a lot of users)

Thank you for showing the great new features. Another pro is the much faster installation of this new version. A con for me is that .png still can be exported in 16 bit only.

This update is at least a solid triple if not a homerun. I felt before that On1 was kind of behind the curve on masking. This changes my opinion enough that I feel it is easier to use than Photoshop objects especially since you can create local adjustments or effects while in Photoshop you really only can mask using adjustment layers. What is still missing is a way to do an intersect. The speed enhancements are significant. Use an M1 Mac Mini 16GB which now blows through looking a folders via their browser function much like Adobe Bridge does. I don’t see any difference in performance between Bridge and this release of On1. If you are looking at a calendar function it is great as well. One other significant update how they do updates which is much faster now both in the download but also the installation. Overall Kudos to On1.

Thank you Jim for this up date of 2024.5 I would like to see you do a video on using the new user interface. Where they hide everything, so you can't find it. I really wish that they left like the 2023 app.

Looks amazing, but this late in the year I think I am going to hold out for On1 2025.

THanks for this On1 update video Jim. The software gets not only more powerful but easier to use. Competition between the various sofware companies are clearly keeping them on thier toes and us photographers get the benefit.

Impressive video, Jim. I'd predict that Super Select AI in On1 Photo RAW version 2024.4 would not have isolated beach vs. sky or sand vs. grass nearly this well without manual brush refinement, compared to the new updated version, 2024.5. This looks like a real upgrade for Super Select AI in particular.

Very interesting, seems like a good update. That said, I know you've also posted videos about Luminar Neo. I'd be interested in a comparison of the two and/or your thoughts for someone who has little experience with photo editing and now doesn't own, or have significant experience with, either one.

Unless I am missing something, this is missing a key feature. There doesn't seem to be a way to add/remove form an existing mask. It seems is is about creating a new mask only. For example, I add an effect and with a luminosity mask I would like to subject a subject from the luminosity mask, but it always replaces the mask. I have been using Capture One, and this is very similar to their Mask AI, except for being able to add/remove from a current mask. Addition thoughts: One of the real innovative features that Adobe added to Lightroom was intersecting masks, This really creates very complex masks, It seems that if ON1 added options to replace/update masks in the Quick Mask AI Brush section, they could gain a substantial intersecting mask capabilities.

nice presentation, I wish ON1 was more intuitive to use. With every upgrade I've begged for them to give us a dust spot removal tool such as with Luminar, at first they would claim to be working on it, now they just ignore me and don't respond at all.

Thanks Jim. Whilst it’s nice that apps like Luminar and others venture on mobile devices, I feel that that these apps are just tasters to get people on the computer version, they are too cut back and simplistic. In feel none of these give much value as Snapseed or Darkroom+ which I use constantly, the former is free and the latter is a great low yearly subscription. Both offer masks which I need all the time to process images. Maybe all they want is apps like one click one fix brigade of apps out there. Nonetheless thanks again for sharing.

I am using a traill version of ON1 Pure Raw 2024 and I do not see the Face Recovery Option into the APP. I am on Mac M2

Jim - how does the mobile app interact with the mobile app. Is there a way to share images for edited across mobile and the desktop?

This app is useless on iPhone without Landscape UI if you are a Landscape/Cityscape Photographer.

Cool product, thanks for this Jim! However, as I said with Luminar for iPad, we really need RAW support. However, it is nice that they keep the raw when they save an additional jpg file.

Screw iPhone, what about Android users? We shoot great photos also. Luminar sucks.

...so Skylum left a halfbaked IMGMI on Android and did a completely new app for Apple. And the funny bit is I bought the IMGMI which to me has much potential...now it's a white elephant on my Android....☹☹☹

Been testing this on the iPhone 14 pro and the interface is messed up. Filed a report but nothing has been fixed. Most notably, the SHARE button only shows SHA.

It works well. I have been using it in the iPad before ; I like the layout better on the iPhone version.

Some of us don't use Apple products. 😢

Hi Jim - a nicely put course. I believe you also use ON1 software, isn't it? If so, which one is better - Luminar Neo or ON1 ? What is your recommendation?

Luminar Neo should have an update where we can see all the pictures we're editing on the side just like Capture One. Where we can scroll to check/select any pictures.

Nice to see another edit on an HDR, Jim. Maybe you could point out the differences in how you approach editing an HDR vs a single image (if any). Also, you should've plugged your HDR preset pack. 😉

Wow, not starting with Develop RAW is like breaking the Prime Directive! 😆Good reminder to be more curious and experiment more. I've watched so many of your videos that I also automatically go Develop RAW, Supercontrast, Toning every time as well. Starting with anything else always makes me feel like I'm "missing" something.
